FAQ

I have found that there are some questions that every bride has when they begin to look for a wedding cake. Listed below are some of the most popular ones that I am asked by brides and non-brides alike.

Which are your most popular flavors?
Lemon with Fresh Lemon Curd #1. Chocolate Fudge is #2. Also very popular are my White with Raspberry, Red Velvet and Apple Spice. My cakes are made fresh with the very best ingredients.

Can I choose more than one flavor?
Yes!  With tiered cakes, you may choose more than one flavor/filling combination.

I have heard that fondant doesn’t taste very good.  Is that true?
Fondant is a soft candy covering that is made mostly of sugar.  I believe that it should not add any flavor nor take away from the flavor of your cake.  It can be flavored if you wish, but I discourage this as your cake, filling and the frosting should make up the taste of the cake.  My fondant is soft and pliable when you cut it.  I always ice the cake with buttercream before I cover it with a thin layer of fondant. That way you get the beauty of fondant, and the great taste of buttercream.

Can you copy a picture from a magazine?
Absolutely!  I can reproduce a cake from a photo, or if you like elements of different photos, I can do that too!

Do the prices include the fresh flowers?
No. You need to order your flowers through your florist. You get the best price that way, and you are sure the flowers will match.  I will arrange the fresh flowers the day of your wedding and will provide information for you so that your florist will order the right amount of flowers for your cake.  I will provide any handmade sugar paste flowers, sugared fruit, etc. that you may choose.

What size cake will I need?
That depends on how you will be using it. Will it be on display for most of the evening and cut toward the end? Will some of your guests have come and gone before you cut the cake? Usually a 3 tier cake will be enough to serve those who are there toward the end of the evening.

Is the cake serving as dessert after a sit down dinner? In this instance you need to be sure you have a nice sized slice for each guest, which usually requires a larger cake. “Dessert slices” are larger than a “reception slice”.  Reception slices are approximately 1” wide x 2” long x height of your cake (typically 4”-5”).

How soon do I need to order my cake?
I usually book up to 6 months or more before your wedding. May, June, and August fill quickly, so it’s best to order as early as you can for these months.   A deposit is required and will put you on my calendar. The balance is due 2 weeks before your wedding.

Other points to consider:
How big of an impact do you want your cake to make? How large is the area where it will be displayed? Is the cake high on your priority list? Is the cake a grand centerpiece?  I can also add height and additional details to your cake by using “false” layers – fondant covered cake dummies to give the illusion of a larger cake.

Any cake you see can be made in either a larger or smaller version. Don’t choose your cake style solely by the size you see in the picture.
